Tips from Peter McNeven. At the NQ champs I was lucky enough to have Peter McNeven share some words of wisdom with me. With Finals coming up I have made a summary for you! 1. Correct on the spot: Don't wait until half time to correct or re-direct a player/team. If you identify a change needs to be made talk directly with the players on the sideline... don't wait 20 minutes till half time or another 20 till the game is over. 2. Give the team two game plans: Plan A and Plan B. Teach we do plan A when this happens and if the opposition do this than we resort to Plan B. When teaching the plans teach the why? Which is associated with it. 3. Give the team a game plan based on their game and also based on the opposition strengths or weaknesses... teach the players about the opposition game so they are pre-armed when they go on the field. 4. SKILLS! practise skills... no matter what level basic skills are critical. Incorporate skills challenges into training sessions... skills sessions need to be exciting too! 5. Don't accept excuses. No ifs or buts. 6. Don't just tell players what is going wrong. Give them specific actions of what to do to correct what is going wrong! |
